The artificial intelligence industry is bracing for a historic Wall Street debut. Anthropic, the company behind the popular Claude chatbot, has confidentially submitted draft registration paperwork to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering.

This move sets the stage for one of the most anticipated market events in recent tech history, potentially cementing the era of the trillion-dollar AI startup.

The Staggering Numbers Behind the Filing

Anthropic's financial trajectory over the past year has been nothing short of explosive. The confidential filing allows the company to shield sensitive financial details from the public temporarily, but the reported figures paint the picture of a corporate juggernaut:

  • Valuation: Anthropic recently closed a $65 billion funding round in late May, propelling its post-money valuation to $965 billion.

  • Rapid Growth: This valuation has skyrocketed from $380 billion just a few months prior in February.

  • Revenue Run Rate: The company's annualized revenue run rate hit an astonishing $47 billion in May, up significantly from approximately $10 billion the year prior.

  • Market Position: With this latest funding round, Anthropic has vaulted past its chief rival, OpenAI, which was last valued at $852 billion.

What is Driving the Growth?

Unlike some competitors that heavily target consumer subscriptions, Anthropic's financial success is heavily anchored in high-value enterprise deals and specialized AI agents.

  • Enterprise Adoption: The company officially serves over 300,000 business users, experiencing massive growth in large corporate accounts over the past year.

  • Agentic Tools: Products like the coding model Claude Code have seen immense traction. Claude Code reportedly reached $1 billion in annualized revenue within just six months of its launch.

  • Next-Generation Models: Excitement is also building for Anthropic's unreleased frontier AI model, Claude Mythos. Currently restricted under "Project Glasswing," the model was discovered to possess extreme autonomous cybersecurity capabilities.

The Ultimate Market Test

While the revenue numbers are monumental, the IPO will serve as a massive test of public investor appetite for the AI sector. Training and running advanced AI models requires staggering amounts of computing power, making these companies highly capital-intensive. Like its rivals OpenAI and SpaceX, Anthropic is currently burning through more cash than it generates.

The race to the public market is heavily contested. SpaceX recently published its IPO prospectus, and OpenAI is expected to confidentially file in the coming weeks.

If Anthropic's public offering proceeds successfully, it will not only secure billions in capital to fuel its massive data center and computing needs, but it will also set a benchmark for the true public market value of generative artificial intelligence.
