Apple Unveils First Foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, Alongside iPhone 18 Pro Lineup
Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, while also introducing the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max with upgraded cameras, performance and battery life.
Apple has unveiled its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, making it the biggest highlight of the company's latest product launch.
The Duo opens into a 7.6-inch display and has a 5.4-inch outer screen when folded. It starts at $1,999, making it Apple's most expensive iPhone.
Alongside the foldable, Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, focusing on improvements to the camera, battery life, performance and artificial intelligence.
iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Max
Both models are powered by the new A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer process.
They also feature upgraded 48MP Fusion cameras, including main, ultra-wide and telephoto cameras.
Apple has added more Apple Intelligence features through iOS 27, including an AI-powered Siri. The phones also include the N1 wireless chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both begin with 256GB of storage, while the Pro Max can reach 2TB.
Apple says the Pro Max delivers its biggest battery-life improvement ever on an iPhone, helped by advances in Apple Silicon and a larger battery.
Why the Foldable Matters
The iPhone Duo puts Apple into a foldable-phone market where Samsung and other Android manufacturers have already established themselves.
For Apple, however, the launch is about more than adding another model. The Duo introduces a completely new iPhone design that combines a compact phone with a much larger screen when opened.
It also marks Apple's first major move into foldable smartphones, giving the company a new product category to compete in.
The Duo will be available for pre-order from October 16, with sales beginning October 23.
Mixed Reactions to the Prices
The new iPhones have generated mixed reactions, particularly over their prices.
Some customers have questioned whether the upgrades justify the higher cost, while others remain willing to pay more for the latest features and hardware.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will be available from September 18, with pre-orders beginning September 12.
